St Etienne vs Manchester United: Squad and injury news from Mourinho

by Sam Peoples

Here is the latest Manchester United squad news ahead of today’s match against St. Etienne.

Jose Mourinho left three players behind from the 23 which trained on Tuesday morning so we will not see Wayne Rooney, Matteo Darmian or Luke Shaw play tonight, For Shaw, it means the wait continues for his Man United return and Daley Blind is likely to keep his place at left-back.

In midfield, Michael Carrick is likely to start in midfield as Ander Herrera is suspended. Marouane Fellaini is also more than likely to be in the team, especially with United heading to France with a comfortable 3-0 lead which means we don’t have to attack with intent from the start.

Speaking about Rooney, Mourinho said: “Rooney is injured. I cannot do miracles at that level.

“I think we have great improvement from the past years in trying to protect the players from injury and helping them recover as soon as possible.

“When you don’t have a player you have others, and they work hard.

“We lost one game, and it was one we could lose so we are in a good moment. The players are playing well.”
