Juan Mata has sent Henrikh Mkhitaryan a message of support after the Armenian limped out of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Saint Etienne in the Europa League.
The Armenian prodded home from a sensational Mata cross after 15 minutes to completely kill off any potential of a comeback for the home side.
But Mkhitaryan’s night dramatically soured just ten minutes later, with a hamstring strain forcing him off and ruining his chances of featuring in the League Cup final.
Mata took to social media after the game to express his support for the 28-year-old.

The combination of Mata and Mkhitaryan is truly something to behold: two technically gifted visionaries, capable of outwitting opponents through smart movement alone, calmly guiding the ball around the pitch and ensuring that United’s attacking frontier maintains its usual fluidity. Such raw class on the ball – such composure in every single action – has been miserably scarce over the last few years.
They were at it once again at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. Mata, lurking on the left hand side, saw Mkhitaryan’s cleverly disguised run and sent an inch-perfect ball in his direction, and the Armenian duly provided the perfect touch.
United fans will be desperate to see the pair line up alongside each other sooner rather than later.
