Manchester United fans thrilled with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s performance against Southampton

Manchester United fans were left in a state of pure elation following Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s match-winning performance during their side’s 3-2 win over Southampton in the League Cup final.

The big Swede rifled home a sumptuous free-kick after 19 minutes to send Jose Mourinho‘s men into the lead.

And then, with the game heading towards extra time and Southampton bashing on United’s door late on, the 35-year-old powered home an inch-perfect header to send supporters into a whirlwind of euphoria.

Man United fans were understandably unable to control their emotions following Zlatan’s winner.

It felt like Southampton’s game. Claude Puel’s side were magnificent, pouring forward in emphatic and unpredictable fashion all afternoon. And United, in response, had very little, with their attacking frontier looking just a bit too ragged for extra time – too overwhelmed by the unexpectedly excruciating nature of this contest.

He had displayed his big game brilliance with that magnificent free-kick, but Zlatan was starting to look like a blunt instrument going forward, perhaps jaded following the exertions of the last week.

And then, out of nowhere, he was there: the ball from Ander Herrera was perfect and the Swede stood up when his side – and indeed the club itself – needed him, and off he went, that huge, marauding figure racing across the Wembley turf, arms outstretched like a Scandinavian war king fresh from conquering yet another foreign territory. That was his 26th goal of the season, and with it came his biggest statement yet to those that doubted him back in July.
