Henrikh Mkhitaryan trained with his Manchester United teammates on Friday morning ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
Mkhitaryan missed out on a place in the EFL Cup final through injury after going off in the 1-0 win away at St. Etienne after scoring Man United’s only goal and is an injury concern for the game at Old Trafford.
But seeing Mkhitaryan in training is certainly a step in the right direction and fans are hoping the Armenian midfielder will be able to return on Saturday. Without him in the team against Southampton at Wembley, we were notably blunted in attack so the sooner he’s back the better.
Once upon a time earlier this season Mkhitaryan was in the shadows at United but now he is firmly in the spotlight for all the right reasons. I don’t think there is anybody who compares to him in the squad; Juan Mata is too slow, Anthony Martial operates better on the left and both Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera play deeper. Mkhitaryan is unique in Jose Mourinho‘s side and that’s what makes him so important.
United have been on the march for a top four finish in the last couple of months and head into the Bournemouth match knowing that three points will see jump into fourth with Arsenal and Liverpool playing each other meaning points are going to be dropped.
We should have enough in the squad to beat Bournemouth at home but to get United playing the flowing attacking football we have at points this season, we need Mkhitaryan back in the team.
