Jose Mourinho explains why Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed his penalty against Bournemouth

Jose Mourinho insists Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed his penalty against Bournemouth because Manchester United have not practiced them in training for four months.

Man United were awarded a second-half penalty as the side desperately searched for a second goal at 1-1, but he was denied by goalkeeper Artur Boruc as he failed to get enough on it.

The penalty was Man United’s first in the Premier League since August and just their third all season, however, claiming one of the world’s best forwards missed a penalty just because they hadn’t been trained for a months is slightly ridiculous.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho highlighted the fact that the players didn’t have the right mindset for penalties.

“Nobody asked me why we missed the penalty,” Mourinho said. When a reporter asked, he replied: “Because for four months we don’t train.

“The players decided not to train for penalties because we never have penalties to train.”

Ibrahimovic managed to find the back of the net against Southampton in the second league game of the campaign and in the 3-0 win over St Etienne last month.

He went into the bottom left-hand corner once again as he did on both previous occasions, but Boruc prevented him from scoring his 27th goal for United, which is disappointing as United miss out on another brilliant chance to move out of sixth in the Premier League.
