Jose Mourinho set to extend Juan Mata’s Manchester United contract – report

Jose Mourinho is set to extend Juan Mata‘s contract at Manchester United by a year as he has 16 months remaining on his current deal, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has been a vital player at Old Trafford this season and was arguably our best performer before Henrikh Mkhitaryan was re-introduced to the first-team earlier in the campaign.

He was signed by former boss David Moyes three years ago after being sold by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, and although his future did seem in doubt when the Portuguese boss took over last summer, he’s done a brilliant job of establishing himself as a first-team player.

Even though he hasn’t always played, starting some games from the bench, often not playing the full 90 minutes, or coming off at half-time as we saw in last Sunday’s EFL Cup Final, Mata has still played a big role.

Despite his setbacks, Mata is United’s second-top scorer this season with nine goals in all competitions and he deserves a new contract at Old Trafford as he’s a very special player

Mata has previously spoken out about his desire to stay at United, stating he’d love to stay at the club beyond his current contract and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before it’s officially announced.
