Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United’s clash with FC Rostov called off

Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United’s Europa League clash with FC Rostov to be postponed.

He is furious with the state of the pitch at the Olimp-2 Stadium where the first-leg of the last 16 draw is due to take place on Thursday night.

An appeal would have to go through with UEFA by Thursday afternoon, but United officials are said to be afraid a request could fall short with the game expected to go ahead.

There are fears among the staff that playing on the surface is a risk to players’ safety, with Jose Mourinho claiming he’s unsure whether to play Henrikh Mkhitaryan so soon after his injury after seeing the field.

The players were videoed testing the pitch with United staff and it’s clear the ground is too hard as the balls continuously bobbled throughout the training set with the ball bouncing more than it should.

Mourinho voiced his anger about the situation, but was met with a UEFA official who told him it’s not a problem if the players get injured because they’re all insured anyway.

He’s previously got a game called off as he wasn’t happy with the state of the pitch in Beijing as United were set to face Manchester City in the pre-season, but it’s much tougher to cancel competition games.
