Mesut Ozil insists Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a perfectionist and his attention to detail allows players to drastically improve.
He played under Mourinho during their time at Real Madrid and formed a close relationship with the Portuguese boss, even though Ozil recently revealed that the 54-year-old called him a coward at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Mourinho has done well at Man United as he’s won the EFL Cup and has positioned the squad well in the FA Cup, Europa League and guided his side to within touching distance of the Premier League top four.
Speaking about Mourinho, Ozil only had a positive review.
“We were in the lead at half time. I was pleased with how the game went,” he said.
“In his opinion, we, especially I, could have done much better.
“Mourinho is a special coach. A perfectionist.
“He has a good sense of the human being and does nothing without careful thought.
“He wanted to provoke me so that I could learn from it and get better.”
We’ve seen it with players at Old Trafford this season as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw have all learnt the hard way, but others have also kickstarted their career under Mourinho and Antonio Valencia is also living proof.
Mourinho’s winning mentality is exactly how he gets more out of players, while some may believe they’ve performed well, focusing on the mistakes and working to improve them is undoubtedly more effective.
