David de Gea sends a message to Man United fans

David de Gea has sent supporters a message of gratitude following Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter final on Monday night.

Jose Mourinho‘s side, thumped 4-0 on their last visit to Stamford Bridge, begun the game with plenty of power and conviction but quickly ended up on the back foot following Ander Herrera‘s red card.

De Gea couldn’t do much about N’Golo Kante’s 51st minute strike but produced a string of fine saves to keep the game alive.

The Spaniard took to social media to thank supporters for their continued support.

We should have known, as United fans, that this was going to be a grim evening: United’s last win at Stamford Bridge came in October 2012, and that only came courtesy of Chelsea going down to ten men and an offside goal.

The odds were stacked against Mourinho’s men this evening: no Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial; just two days of preparation compared to Chelsea’s six; and, of course, that awful record at Stamford Bridge somehow placing an aura of foreboding over the whole encounter.

And yet, even in the face of such adversity, Mourinho’s men gave everything, working indefatigably as a collective. And United fans will know that such a performance was, whilst disappointing in terms of its result, illustrative of a promising future.
