Speaking about Rooney in his press conference, Mourinho said: “He’s injured – some kick in his knee area, so he can’t even come out to the pitch. He stays inside the medical department.”
Rooney picked up the injury in training last week after a strong tackle from Phil Jones and it’s been a succession of niggling injuries for him really ever since he broke the record to become Man United’s top scorer ever.

Mourinho has also chosen not to play Rooney on occasion even when he is fit which is the first time that’s happened at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson was boss. For me, Mourinho is managing Rooney properly and it’s been a while since that has been the case at United.
At this moment there is no return date for Rooney and Mourinho hasn’t ruled him out of the weekend’s game against Middlesbrough, so maybe we’ll see Rooney back sooner than we think.
