Manchester United fans were full of praise for Jesse Lingard‘s effervescent performance during their side’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Sunday.
The 24-year-old, whose last start came at Wembley against Southampton, marked his return to the starting XI with a bombastic, relentless display in attacking midfield alongside Juan Mata.
His crowning moment came in the 62nd minute in the form of a sensational drive past former red Victor Valdes into the top corner, which proved enough to hand Jose Mourinho‘s all three points and take them up to fifth.
Man United fans were quick to laud the Englishman in light of what was a truly powerful display.

Lingard, in spite of making his United debut all the way back in August 2014, has failed to fully endear himself to supporters. Under Louis van Gaal he produced a number of energetic, dedicated displays but – aside from the occasional wonder goal – failed to do much else on the right hand side.
This new three-at-the-back approach engendered by Mourinho, however, has given Lingard a chance to exercise another few gears. The Englishman, courtesy of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young coming higher up the pitch, could move inside and find space to exploit, and the end product was something to behold. United fans will be desperate to see Lingard produce further splitting runs through the heart of the opponent’s back four during the closing stages of the campaign.
