Danny Murphy insists Marcus Rashford needs to play more minutes at Manchester United if he stands a chance of fulfilling his potential.
Zlatan’s impressive form has also left him undroppable with 26 goals across all competitions, however instead of being left on the bench, Rashford has been in and out of the starting line-up, returning up front as the Swede serves a three-match ban.
Speaking about the youngster, Murphy claims he needs a regular run in the side to improve his form.
“He’s got a fantastic future, but he needs to play more minutes,” he said.
“When Michael Owen broke into the Liverpool team aged 18, he became a regular starter. You need as a striker at a certain point to be playing games in order to learn your trade.
“You can’t always be potential. It’s a dilemma because Mourinho doesn’t have a good track record of blooding the youngsters and leaving them in.
“I’m a big fan of this lad, he showed so much maturity when he first broke into the team. He gives you pace and he wants to run in behind defences.
“His finishing was a a little off today because he hasn’t played much centrally for United this season, but he’s very calm and I like the way he links with Lingard.
“He has a confidence and a maturity that you rarely see from such a young lad, especially playing for a club like Manchester United. Defenders are terrified of him because they know he can run past them with or without the ball.”
There aren’t many 19-year-old’s that boast the same game time Rashford has enjoyed across all competitions under Mourinho, he’s only at the start of his career and as the Portuguese boss previously stated, his game will improve as he continues with more experience.
He has a brilliant future ahead and hopes are he can continue to work hard and put his head down as he’s proven he has what it takes to lead the side forward.
