Ander Herrera: David de Gea’s future at Manchester United is uncertain

Ander Herrera claims David de Gea‘s future at Manchester United is still uncertain.

The Spaniard is under contract at Old Trafford until at least 2019, but is set to be targeted by Real Madrid again this summer, just two years after his move to the Bernabeu fell through at the last minute.

He’s been a vital player under Jose Mourinho once again as one of the world’s best goalkeepers and losing him would be a massive blow for Man United in the summer.

Speaking about his close friend, Herrera insists he wants De Gea to stay at Old Trafford but understands anything is possible.

“I tried not to bring up the De Gea to Real Madrid topic,” he said.

“It’s difficult for him to one day be at one place, and then to be at another the next.

“He learned a lot from this. It has made him more mature. I want him to be the one defending Manchester United’s goal.

“Hopefully it will be like that, but anything can happen in football.”

De Gea has been indispensable over these last few seasons and has saved us many vital points on plenty of occasions and although he may not be up for the Player of the Year award this campaign with the team now stepping up, it doesn’t take away from his role at the club.

At 26, De Gea has plenty of time left in between the sticks and it’s an important job for Jose Mourinho to ensure he keeps the Spaniard happy and tied down at Old Trafford.
