Diego Simeone has confirmed Manchester United would be able to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann this summer if they meet his release clause.
While there hasn’t been a confirmation on the price Man United would nee to fork out, the figure is believed to be around €100 million (£86.4m).
Although he’s recently insisted he’d like to stay at Atletico, reports claim Man United are in the driving seat to acquire his services.
Speaking about Griezmann’s future, Simeone believes there is a chance that he could leave this summer.
“Yes, because there is a termination clause. There is no security,” he said.
“That’s what he told me (last year) – if you stay, I’ll stay.
“And I said yes, why would I not stay? And they began to work with the representatives for everything that had to be signed. And he stayed.
“And from now on I do not know what can happen. He would never let me tell him to stay. I did not do it with [Diego] Costa or [Radamel] Falcao.”
Griezmann claimed his future was not dependant on Simeone in a recent interview as he seems to be happy at Atletico, but with Jose Mourinho lurking in the wings it’ll be interesting to see how it works out.
He’d be a brilliant addition at Old Trafford and hopes are we’ll be able to see him team up alongside good friend Paul Pogba in a United shirt.
