Sir Alex Ferguson: Bastian Schweinsteiger had more to offer at Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson insists Bastian Schweinsteiger had more to offer at Manchester United after he was sold to MLS side Chicago Fire.

The German was sent into exile by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford since he took over last summer and was forced into training alone and with the U23s before he was re-introduced to the side in recent months.

He wasn’t able to reach his best form after being let down by injuries and although he featured in Man United’s cup competitions, he hadn’t made a single appearance in the Premier League.

Speaking about the World Cup Winner, Sir Alex Ferguson claims he’s a huge figure and will have a massive impact.

“I think there’s plenty left,” he said.

“Unfortunately, he had an injury last season and he was out for a while and when he came back we had a new manager and the new manager, Jose [Mourinho], had his own ideas.

“His move will come at the right time for him. He’s a huge figure.

“He’s very popular with the United players and fans, and he’ll make an impact.”

It’s a shame that it didn’t work out at United, but it was brilliant to see him in action during his short time at the club.

The signing of Bastian was the right idea but it was just too late for him to make an impact in the Premier League as he failed to cope with the intensity of football in England.
