Antoine Griezmann’s move to Man United on verge of completion: report

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann reports the Manchester Evening News.

MEN’s James Robson states that sources close to Griezmann believe the deal is now considered more of a formality than anything else, raising hopes of Man United fans and excitement levels.

Griezmann, 26, is one of Europe’s elite attackers and United have been linked with a move for him even prior to his fantastic tournament at Euro 2016 where he was named the best player. With a reported release clause of £86m, any move for Griezmann could eclipse the world record fee United paid Juventus only last summer for Paul Pogba.

MEN’s reports are not alone this week as whispers from France also suggest Griezmann and his representatives are in favour of a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer.

On paper, United’s main problem this season has been our lack of clinical finishing. With Pogba as the orchestrator, we’re creating chances aplenty but too many frustrating draws, remembered for swathes of chances but hardly any goals, are the main reason why United are chasing fourth this season and not the Premier League title but the arrival of Griezmann would add some more world class finishing ability into a team already littered with attacking talent.

United made a real statement last year by paying way over the odds to bring Pogba home and it looks like he’ll be the centre piece in Jose Mourinho‘s side but the arrival of close friend and compatriot Griezmann could be the transfer which takes us up a stage further.
