Jose Mourinho in Croatia to seal £35million deal for Ivan Perisic – report

Jose Mourinho has travelled to Croatia to secure a £35m deal for Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Perisic ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Croatian announced himself to the watching world in earnest with a series of powerful, innovative performances at Euro 2016.

He has attracted further praise following his exploits at Inter this season, forming an indomitable midfield partnership alongside Geoffrey Kondogbia as a midfield duo in a 4-2-3-1 set-up.

And according to The Sun‘s Dan King, Mourinho has made the trip to Croatia in order to finalise the deal ahead of a summer move.

You would suspect that any midfield acquisition Mourinho makes over the summer to be underpinned, at least partly, by a desire to seek an adequate replacement for Michael Carrick, now approaching the latter stages of his career and perhaps even his last end-of-season climax as a Manchester United player.

But the truth is that Perisic’s style feels more akin to that of, say, Ander Herrera than the Englishman. The 28-year-old compliments Kondogbia’s no-nonsense, battering ram-esque style with an equally energetic approach, directed instead towards moving forward with the ball and dictating the tempo of each attack.

His range of pass, positional sense and overall work rate is something to behold, and he would, without doubt, inflict plenty of damage alongside the Spaniard and Paul Pogba next season.
