Anthony Martial is enjoying some downtime this week away from Manchester United after not being called up by Didier Deschamps for France’s international fixtures.
With a French squad littered with attacking talent, Deschamps decided not to bring Martial as the likes of Dembele, Griezmann and the in-form Kylian Mbappe were all given the nod ahead of him. You know your squad is strong when you can leave Martial out of it completely!
As for Martial, it is certainly a time for him to realise he needs to continue improving in order to stay in this France squad but on the upside it has given him an opportunity for a break. Sometimes they can make all the difference for players.
When Martial returns, United hit top gear with seven fixtures in April including the re-arranged Manchester derby on 27 April at the Etihad. Jose Mourinho will want him on top form for the month, so maybe the short break in Dubai will do him the world of good.
Plenty of critics have pointed the finger at Martial for not delivering the same standard as he did in his breakthrough year but United fans have all stood behind him all the way, that won’t change, so here’s hoping Martial comes back in fine form.
