Injury update on Paul Pogba at Manchester United

by Leo Nieboer

Paul Pogba will step up his recovery process over the next few days after responding well to a hamstring injury sustained against FC Rostov but will not face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Frenchman was forced off with what looked like a pulled hamstring during Man United’s 1-0 win over FC Rostov in the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho immediately noted that Pogba would miss the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough alongside both upcoming internationals for France.

He has allegedly been seen on a bike around Carrington over the last few days and will soon resume ball work, but won’t be ready in time for the clash with Tony Pulis’ side.

The 24-year-old has featured in 41 of United’s 48 games so far this season, displaying hardly an iota of lethargy all season until being forced to run the midfield without the help of Ander Herrera for an hour against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Throwing him straight back into the fray against Rostov, then, was a questionable call, and the decision did indeed come back to bite Mourinho where it hurts. But this is the purpose behind Pogba: to use him on a perennial, almost incessant basis as a means of enmeshing his style into the side’s overall approach going forward.
