Paul Scholes believes Jose Mourinho will be given plenty of time as he looks to get Manchester United back to their winning ways.
The Portuguese boss took over from Louis van Gaal last summer and performances have already massively improved with the arrivals of summer signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
Mourinho’s side have already won the EFL Cup, but need to focus on winning the Europa League and finishing in the top four of the Premier League, as their main aim remains a Champions League qualification.
Speaking about Mourinho’s side, Scholes claims he’ll be able to meet the aims of the club.
“He will be given loads of time,” he said.
“He has had to consolidate after a difficult couple of years. He has managed to do that, and he will want to kick on now.
“The last couple of years were a little bit tough to watch and I think he has steadied the ship now.
“The league position should probably be a little bit better than it is really; they have dropped some really silly points, especially at home, but they are creating chances and they look like a United team everybody expects and wants to watch again.”
United currently sit fifth in the Premier League, only four points behind Liverpool with two games in hand and face Anderlecht in the quarter-finals of the Europa League in April.
It’s not unrealistic to want to achieve both targets, although recent draws in the Premier League have made the task at hand much harder.
Hopes are the squad can continue their impressive form as they look to close the gap even further and progress in the Europa League.
