Manchester United to trigger Antoine Griezmann’s £85m release clause – report

by Tanveer Arayan

Manchester United plan to trigger the £85 million release clause in Antoine Griezmann’s contract at the end of the season, according to the Telegraph.

James Ducker claims Paul Pogba has been making efforts to reassure the Atletico Madrid forward that life in England is not as bad as he fears by sending him regular text messages to ensure there is nothing to worry about in Manchester.

Griezmann has made it clear on many occasions this season that he is happy in Spain and has no problems at Atletico, especially with Deigo Simeone extending his stay at the club.

However, Mourinho allegedly told United’s hierarchy to focus their efforts on Griezmann last year in a bid to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford ahead of this summer.

It’s a very complicated deal and it could get even trickier if Atletico win the Champions League, United fail to qualify for the competition or if f Diego Simeone decides to stay on as coach.

Simeone reduced the length of his contract at Atletico last year, which makes him a free agent in the summer, and while Griezmann claims his future does not solely rely on the Argentinian boss, there’s no doubt it’ll impact his decision on his future.
