Jose Mourinho has offered sacked Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka a job at Manchester United, according to reports.

The pair have remained close during their time in England as Karanka was Mourinho’s assistant during his time in charge at Real Madrid.

Reports claim they have spoken about Karanka becoming a member of his backroom team as he was sacked after struggling at Middlesbrough following four years with the side where he got them promoted to the Premier League after seven seasons in the Championship.

He’s already allegedly been approached by clubs in his homeland but is considering his options following his time in the Premier League.

With Mourinho claiming there is a place available for him in the dugout at Old Trafford, he’ll be looking to assess his next move.

Mourinho is clearly looking out for Karanka as he was vocal in his support for sacked Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri, even wearing the former manager’s initials on his jacket to a press conference earlier in the season.

Should Karanka decide to take up Mourinho’s offer, a reunion will be on the cards, but it still remains to be seen what his job will actually consist of during his time at Old Trafford.
