Jose Mourinho breaks silence on Victor Lindelof after transfer rumours

Jose Mourinho has labelled Victor Lindelof as a ‘good guy’ after being questioned about him following some intense transfer speculation in January.

SL Benfica defender Lindelof was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window and some parts of the Portuguese press went as far as to say the move was effectively completed.

Alas, Lindelof stayed at Benfica and ended up signing a new contract just like so many others before him but Mourinho is well aware of the Swedish centre-back after an excellent breakthrough at the Portuguese club.

“Obviously. I know all the players in Portugal,” Mourinho said when queried about Lindelof.

“Yes, he’s a good guy.”

Mourinho is yet to sign either a Portuguese player or one from a Portuguese club but there is no doubt Lindelof will be linked again after the sort of form Man United’s centre-backs have had this year.

Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are set to miss the rest of United’s season and there is no guarantee either will be at the club past the summer, so at least one new centre-back is going to be arriving at United and maybe even more than that.

Will Lindelof be one of them? He’s a no nonsense defender and somebody who is more of the Eric Bailly ilk than any others currently at United, something we certainly need more of so I’d expect the transfer rumours to continue. One thing is for sure, Mourinho will be selling and buying plenty of players at United this summer as he continues to shape his squad so it is all set to be another exciting summer in that respect.
