Jose Mourinho: I was not happy with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performance against West Bromwich Albion

Jose Mourinho claims he was not happy with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performance against West Bromwich Albion earlier in the week.

The Portuguese boss left Mkhitaryan on the bench for Man United’s fixture against Everton on Tuesday night, bringing him on later in the second-half and it’s clear that he wanted to send a message to his players.

Mkhitaryan has arguably been one of our best performers this season and to leave him on the bench when Man United need to claim all three points, especially after the club’s recent set of draws, was a very risky decision.

Speaking prior to the Everton clash, Mourinho revealed why he left Mkhitaryan on the bench.

“The thinking is because I am not happy with Mkhi’s performance in the last match and Pogba was not ready to play last Saturday, is because after 48 hours he is not to the best of his game so good to have him on the bench to give one more option,” he said.

It could impact his confidence or he could return a better player as we previously saw earlier in the campaign, but publically criticising your players is not the way to handle a dip in form, especially after Mkhitaryan initially struggled to adapt.

Mkhitaryan is a vital player at Old Trafford and there’s no doubt he’ll have a massive role to play as United look to get their way back into the Champions League.
