He has already made eight appearances for the full England side and scored one goal, but Gareth Southgate believes he’d benefit from a run-out with the youngsters at the end of the Premier League season.
Mourinho has already stated his opinion on the situation, claiming he would rather the youngster had a few months to energise as it’d be a waste of time for someone of Rashford’s experience to drop back down to the Under-21s.
Speaking about the situation, Mourinho has left the decision in the hands of the FA.
“I don’t think my opinion becomes important,” he said. “The power is in the Football Association’s hands and they are going to make the decision which they think is the best decision.
“Whether I agree or disagree, my opinion is not important. I don’t want to discuss because maybe it will end with you using my words and my words are not strong.”
Mourinho understands he’ll have no say in the matter and while he may believe Rashford cold take the time to rest, it’ll be nice for him to start in the central role and pick up some more experience.
He hasn’t been able to make the headlines this year as he’s been forced out wide with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line, but sharpening his skill set will only improve his game until he takes over from the big Swede as our main striker.
