The Englishman has hardly featured at Old Trafford this season and has often been criticised by the Portuguese boss on the rare occasions where he has been given some game time.
He came off the bench against Everton earlier in the week and was vital in winning a penalty in the closing minutes of the game which helped the side salvage a point, but Mourinho claimed after the game that it was his instructions but Shaw’s body as he was shouting instructions from the touchline.
Speaking about the situation, Scowcroft claims Mourinho will be looking for a replacement at left-back.
“I’m not sure what Shaw has done to upset Mourinho,” Scowcroft said.
“Reading between the lines, I think he wants a new left-back in and Shaw is from the old regime. I think maybe Mourinho is putting him down in the media to prove his point. It’s a little bit naughty.”
It’s disappointing because although Mourinho previously claimed he has no intentions of selling Shaw as he has the potential to become a top player, he’s still going the wrong way in publically shaming the Englishman even after he’s performed well.
Mourinho claimed he’s a long way behind his United team-mates and while his performances on the pitch have suggested otherwise, Mourinho is the only person that can inform us about his attitude to working hard in training.
Hopes are he can put his head down and work hard because there’s no doubting his potential to become a solid player at United.
