Celta Vigo forward Theo Bongonda ready to join Manchester United

Celta Vigo forward Theo Bongonda insists he’s ready to join Europe’s elite and would not turn down a summer move to Manchester United.

He joined from Zulte-Waregem in 2015 and after catching the eye of the La Liga, insists he doesn’t intend to stay with the Spanish club forever.

Bongonda has helped fire the Celticos into the top half of La Liga and into the Europa League quarter-finals following his impressive displays and is under contract at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos until 2019.

Speaking about a potential move, Bongonda is ready to take the next step up.

“I could comfortably stay another two or three years with Vigo, but it is not my ambition to spend the rest of my career with them,” he said.

“If Chelsea, Manchester United or Atletico Madrid call me in the near future I should be ready to make the step up to join them.

“Every footballer wants to play at the highest possible level. If I could choose my next club I’d say Sevilla – I’ve always felt attracted to them although I don’t know why.

“They would be a terrific next step in my career. They are always in the top five in La Liga, always in Europe, and Seville is an attractive city.
“But if Real Madrid come in for me I won’t say no. Seriously, I want to develop a step at a time.

“Three years ago I was still sat on the sub’s bench for Zulte Waregem’s game against Beveren. Since then I have played against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.”

He’s been capped at Under 21 level for Belgium and is on the brink of breaking into Roberto Martinez’s senior international squad only two years after leaving his homeland.

Should his impressive displays continue, there’s a good chance we’ll see him at a top club, but there’s no doubt that we will continue to be linked with the Belgian following his comments.
