Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane open to selling Raphael Varane this summer – report

Real Madrid boss will consider selling Raphael Varane to Manchester United for the right price this summer, according to reports.

The French defender, brought to the Bernabeu by Mourinho in 2011, turned down a move to Old Trafford last summer after being approached once again by the 54-year-old.

It has been more recently reported that a potential swap deal involving David de Gea and Varane – who has made 18 La Liga appearances this season – over the summer was on the cards.

And according to Calcio Mercato, Zidane will be open to selling the 23-year-old to Man United if he manages to complete a deal for Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci.

It is hard to imagine Madrid entering business with Mourinho this summer without expecting something in return. No prizes for guessing who they might have in mind: De Gea has, after all, been a long-term subject of interest for Florentino Perez and Co, but Ed Woodward has proven to be no pushover in the fight over the 26-year-old.

The bargaining chip of Varane, therefore, might just be too good to refuse for Mourinho, whose interest in the Frenchman follows similar advancements made by Louis van Gaal before him. This could indeed be a hugely beneficial deal for both parties ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
