The Spaniard has been a vital first-team player this campaign and showcased his influence in the 2-0 victory over league-leaders Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
He won the Man of the Match award at Old Trafford as he set up Marcus Rashford’s opening goal of the game with a brilliant long ball and then scored a crucial second goal to close out the game, all whilst ensuring Eden Hazard was zoned completely out of the game.
Speaking about Mourinho’s influence, Herrera claims he’ll always be ready to fight for his place in the side.
“I am very thankful to him,” he said.
“This season has been the most regular one for me at the club and that is with Mourinho on the bench. I am very happy. He gave me, from the first day, a lot of confidence and he told me I was going to be an important player for him.
“I will always be thankful but football changes. We have great players and Manchester United has the capacity to sign big players, so I cannot sleep. I have to keep working, performing and giving what the manager wants me to give.”
I’m delighted that Herrera has been able to cement his place in the team as he’s showcased exactly why he deserves to be starting each week against Chelsea.
Hopes are he can keep fit and maintain his form as United have a massive task ahead in getting back into the Champions League and he’ll have an important role to play.
