Jamie Carragher believes there is still a place for Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester as he’s been one of the best players in the Premier League this season.
Many were taken by Marcus Rashford‘s eye-catching performance against Chelsea, as he scored within the opening seven minutes of the game and managed an all-round impressive display.
As a result, critics suggested Man United were better without Ibrahimovic, but as the club’s top goal scorer with 28 goals across all competitions, it’d be a ridiculous decision not to try and tie him down for another year at Old Trafford.
Speaking about his future, Carragher insists Zlatan still has plenty to contribute at Old Trafford.
“You shouldn’t get carried away with one game,” he said.
“Zlatan has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season.
“Does he lack mobility? Yes, you know that when you sign him. The whole point of United having fast wingers and Rashford playing wide at times was to give you that [mobility]. You know Ibrahimovic hasn’t got that pace when you sign him.
“Do they play better? If Rashford played centre-forward next season I don’t think he’d get the goals Zlatan has got. He may provide other things and help other players but let’s not forget it’s just one game, Zlatan has been outstanding this season.”
Ibrahimovic has been a vital player at United this season and there’s no doubt that he still has it in the locker to perform at the best of his abilities next campaign.
Rashford is still only at the start of his career at 19 and he has plenty of time to take the main stage as he’ll be using this time to learn as much as he can from the big Swede.
