Juan Mata has stepped up his recovery process at Manchester United, working hard in the gym following his groin operation.
The Spaniard underwent groin surgery over the international break last month, with initial reports claiming he would be out until May.
But Mata, in spite of his recent setback, was pictured in good spirits in the gym as he continues to work towards full fitness once again.
In the midst of Sunday’s impressive – and perhaps defining – win over Chelsea, the camera panned over to the 28-year-old at some point in the second half. He was sitting behind Michael and Will Keane but very much on his own. The Spaniard looked decidedly glum, watching powerlessly on as Mourinho’s men took apart his former side in emphatic fashion.
You could see, etched all over his face, a consigned, muted expression – all he wanted to do was play a part in what was a big day for the club, but all he could do was sit there, think, think and think some more. Missing what could be a potentially explosive end to the season would have hurt him. United fans will just hope to see him return to his best ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
