David de Gea 6 – Gathered crosses well but didn’t have much to do in the form of big saves.
Ashley Young 6 – Put in another regimented, energetic display at full-back. Composed on the ball and positionally astute all afternoon. Could have perhaps offered more going forward.
Eric Bailly 7 – The Ivorian, following six consecutive 90 minute stints, deserves immense praise for the way he applied himself at Turf Moor. Sturdy and unfuffled, even bailing Blind out of trouble on a few occasions.
Daley Blind 6 – Made his first appearance at centre back since October and provided plenty of poise alongside Bailly. Occasionally struggled to deal with the physicality and pace of Burnley’s front two.
Matteo Darmian 6 – Deployed at left back – hardly his favourite position – and quietly went about his defensive business in a militantly focused manner, only to sometimes let himself down with a few stray passes.
Ander Herrera 7 – Came back into the side after being rested against Anderlecht and diligently took hold of what could have been a tricky midfield battle from minute one. Simply unceasing in his energy levels and provided a superb assist for Martial’s goal.
Paul Pogba 7 – A notable cut above the rest in midfield: the Frenchman’s technical bravado, strength, range of pass and confidence dwarfed that of anything Burnley could offer.
Marouane Fellaini 6 – Did a good job when it came to dealing with Burnley’s aerial threat, essentially shutting down the potential threat of Ashley Barnes, but gave away a number of unnecessary fouls.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Invoked a palpable sense of energy and dedication on the right hand side as Rooney and Martial roamed across the pitch. Failed to offer much potency in the final third.
Wayne Rooney 6.5 – Grabbed his first goal since January and, in spite of the occasional lack of composure, looked threatening alongside Martial going forward.
Anthony Martial 7.5 – The Frenchman was given a chance to feature up front for the first time since January and sent a powerful message to Jose Mourinho with a mazy, lively display, claiming a wonderful goal on the counter and an assist for Rooney.
