The Englishman hasn’t been in the squad in recent times but managed to get himself on the scoresheet, as he found the second goal of the game against Burnley, squeezing the ball over the line from a tight angle halfway through the first-half.
It was a brilliant way for him to mark his return as he hasn’t been in the first-team for almost a month due to an injury and fitness issues.
Speaking prior to the clash, Mourinho claims Rooney has the right mentality to help the squad.
“Playing today we have the same number of matches as Man City so this weekend zero points for them and we have the chance to get one or three,” he said.
“This is the moment for everyone to give everything they can. Not playing for such a long time and being injured for a few weeks I do not believe Rooney is in the top of his form and does not have 90 minutes. But he has the mentality and the desire to help us.”
He put in a great shift Turf Moor and has scored in 149 different Premier League games, now level with Frank Lampard and Andrew Cole.
Rooney will be looking to work his way back into the squad, especially with the recent injury crisis and the side’s busy schedule of fixtures.
