He suffered significant knee-ligament damage in Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final victory against Anderlecht and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Many believe he won’t even be able to make it back from the setback at 35, but if there’s one man who can work hard and get back to his feet, it’s Zlatan.
Speaking prior to the clash against Burnley, Mourinho hoped Ibrahimovic would be able to return to his best.
“It is a big blow but it is for them, not for us as a team because they are much more important than us and the injuries are really big,” he said.
“No player deserves to be injured, but even more so [these two]. Zlatan in this phase of his career it is really hard and Marcos was in the best moment of his career, playing very well for us and finally getting a position as a centre back in the national team.
“It is for the medical department to be more specific and they prefer to wait a couple more days because the players want to see specialists and have an extra opinion and we must respect that. But they are important injuries.
He also discussed if Zlatan will play for United again.
“I don’t care in this moment, I just want the player to recover the best he can. I am not thinking about it. I promise I am not sad for the team, not worried about the impact on the team’s results and ambitions, i just think about the player. Everyone is really sad.”
He’s been incredible at United this season and it’d be sad for him to end his career that way as he’s proven he’s still got it in the locker as one of the best striker’s in the world.
