Lyon considering loan move for Anthony Martial – report

French side Lyon are lining up a bid to bring Anthony Martial to Ligue 1 on a loan basis over the summer, according to reports.

The 20-year-old, following a sensational debut campaign, has endured a stop-start season under Jose Mourinho, claiming eight goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.

It was reported during the January transfer window that Martial, a sporadic presence at the time, had attracted the attention of Sevilla, but Mourinho quickly insisted he was going nowhere.

But according to Get French Football News, Lyon are considering a loan move for the Frenchman over the summer.

Martial emphatically put to rest any shred of doubt surrounding his allegiance to Man United earlier this season by insisting he was fully committed to the badge, urging supporters to ignore any report suggesting otherwise.

Any onus on a move away, therefore, wouldn’t lie with Martial; the only thing that could drive the youngster away, then, is Mourinho. The Portuguese has previously called on the Frenchman to improve his goal tally and work rate this season, but will take immense confidence from the way Martial, in response, applied himself during United’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

He was an indefatigable, hungry force all afternoon, always determined to find gaps in behind the back four and indeed effective in the final third. One suspects that the 20-year-old will go nowhere if he continues to produce performances of a similar ilk over the next few weeks.
