Ronaldo sends supportive message to Zlatan Ibrahimovic after injury blow

Former Real Madrid and Brazil striker Ronaldo has sent a heartfelt message to Zlatan Ibrahimovic following his knee injury at Manchester United.

The big Swede suffered “significant” knee damage during Man United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the Europa League last week and will miss the rest of the season.

Ibrahimovic took to social media in the aftermath to insist that “giving up was not an option”, making it clear he intended to return stronger than before.

And Ronaldo also took to social media to voice his support for the 35-year-old in the wake of his injury.

You can viably argue that, actually, Man United are a better, more fluid outfit without Zlatan, more capable of ripping through opponents with raw energy as opposed to using the Swede as a sole reference point.

But Jose Mourinho will know that, without Zlatan, he has lost something intangibly important within his squad. The Swede’s 28 goals this season – a total that defied many expectations – is indeed just the start of what he brings to this side. It is indeed no coincidence that numerous United players have remarked on the galvanising psychological impact engendered by the 35-year-old since arriving back in July.

He is far more than an option up front; he is United’s biggest warrior, and supporters will just hope that his injury doesn’t prove costly.
