Wayne Rooney started his first Premier League game since December in the 2-0 win over Burnley and scored the second goal but tonight’s game with Manchester City is another matter altogether.
So, we asked Manchester United fans whether they want to see Rooney start again with Zlatan Ibrahimovic out injured. After all, nobody has scored more goals in the derby in history than Rooney with 11, so he’s got a great track record of bagging a goal against the Blues.
Here’s what Man United fans had to say about whether Rooney should start:
@PeoplesPerson_ No. Denis Law scored a lot more goals than Rashford, but I wouldn't throw him in tonight.

@PeoplesPerson_ 1000% yes!

@PeoplesPerson_ Nope prime rooney stats have nothing to do with the present day

@PeoplesPerson_ No! Great record against the berties but tbh he's not the player he was back but i'd love to see him win it for us coming from the bench.

A mixed bag of responses but on the whole the majority didn’t want to see Rooney start tonight and I have to agree with that majority. Rooney may have scored on his return but would I bring him in to play City having only started one Premier League game in 2017? Not a chance.
Of course, Jose Mourinho throws plenty of surprises with his teams so maybe Rooney will start but if I had a choice I’d rather see our captain start on the bench at the Etihad despite his goalscoring record in the fixture.
