Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has warned rivals it’d be a massive mistake to write off Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese boss was criticised for the side’s defensive play in the 0-0 draw with Manchester City, missing the chance to move into fourth, but after Marouane Fellaini was sent off, he actually adapted well and was able to grind out a valuable point.
Mourinho’s main aim is a Champions League qualification and United have five games left to secure a top four spot in a run which includes trips to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking about the side, Carragher claims United still have what it takes to make the top four.
“You can bet, for certain, he will do something similar at the Emirates and White Hart Lane to what he did at the Eithad Stadium.
“United will need to win one of those games. But they are very much in the fight for the top four and anyone who thinks that a couple of tough away trips will see them fail to last the distance is not looking at the whole picture.”
United won the League Cup in February after defeating Southampton 3-2 and they’re now favourites to win the Europa League as they face Celta Vigo in the semi-final in a week’s time.
United have been unbeaten in 24 games and will hope to continue their impressive run as they face Swansea City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
