Jamie Carragher insists Jose Mourinho must stop complaining about the busy schedule of fixtures at Manchester United.
Man United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Sunday was their ninth game in April and it doesn’t get much better in May as the side play in the Premier League and the Europa League.
The side are just outside the Premier League top four as they sit one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City and have progressed to the Europa League semi-final stage.
Speaking about the fixtures at United, Carragher believes the players should be prepared to play the number of games they have.
“It is difficult but at United you probably have players who are used to playing that amount of games,” he said.
“There are seven or eight teams in Europe who have played nine or 10 games in April.
“If you’re the Manchester United manager, I think you want to play nine games in April because it shows you’re in form, you’re still in competitions and going for things.
“Whenever I started the season at Liverpool, my mentality was that I wanted to play between 40 and 50 games because it means I’m playing every week and we’re being successful.
“When you look at the number of games the players have played, I don’t see anything out of the ordinary there.
“You should be able to play 50 games, it shows your successful.”
The schedule of fixtures has been combined with an injury crisis at Old Trafford with many first-team players ruled out Mourinho confirmed he could be forced into playing some of the under-23 side against Crystal Palace.
