Rio Ferdinand reacts after Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick vs Atletico Madrid

by Sam Peoples

Rio Ferdinand was buzzing in the BT Sport studio inside the Santiago Bernabeu watching another masterclass from Cristiano Ronaldo.

His phenomenal performance to score all three goals for Real Madrid brought his total UEFA Champions League goals to 103 with what was his 42nd career hat-trick for Real Madrid. Yes, 42 (and he only scored one for Manchester United!).

Having played alongside him for so many years at Man United, Ferdinand saw the best of Ronaldo and was delighted to see him taking centre stage in the biggest games just like he did at United.

We got £80m for Ronaldo but that is the biggest bargain ever. Real Madrid got him for a cut price and are still reaping the rewards. Some say Ronaldo is past it but he’s just become the first player to score two hat-tricks in consecutive UEFA Champions League knockout games. Past it? He’s still in his prime.

Can you just take me back to the 2007/8 season so I can see Ronaldo score 42 goals again and us win the double? Please?
