Jose Mourinho must pay £155m to sign Antoine Griezmann at Manchester United – report

Jose Mourinho will have to shell out a total of £155m in order to secure the services of Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann over the summer, according to reports.

It has been reported frequently throughout the season that Mourinho, mindful of a long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, had placed the Frenchman at the top of his priority list ahead of the transfer window.

Griezmann, in response, has made it abundantly clear on several occasions that he had no intention of leaving the Vicente Calderon any time soon.

And according to the Mail Online‘s Ian Ladyman, the Portuguese will have to once again smash the world transfer record in order to have a chance of signing Griezmann.

This is, at least in my mind, an absurd amount of money to throw towards somebody who, whenever asked about United, has noted that he would be much happier under Diego Simeone next season.

Mourinho said himself not so long ago that his summer transfer policy would be aimed towards players with a genuine and indeed enthusiastic desire to come to Old Trafford – not for financial reward and personal esteem but instead to dedicate themselves completely to the 54-year-old’s cause. And anybody who has heard or seen Griezmann on the topic of United will be able to tell you that the striker does not fit such criteria.
