Timothy Fosu-Mensah has sent a message to Manchester United supporters after dislocating his shoulder against Manchester United.
The 19-year-old, who came on for the last ten minutes of Man United’s 0-0 draw at the Ethiad, landed awkwardly and dislocated his shoulder during the final moments of the game.
He has featured on ten occasions under Jose Mourinho this season but never managed to secure a place in the starting XI for a Premier League game.
The Dutchman took to Instagram to ensure supporters that, in spite of such a grim set-back, he will return stronger.
Fosu-Mensah’s progression this season has happened largely behind closed doors. He has struggled for game time under Mourinho but his continued presence in and around the first team suggests that, at Carrington, his efforts have not gone unnoticed. The Portuguese has kept Fosu-Mensah around the first team for a reason: this is a youngster capable of summoning the physical and technical prowess needed to feature regularly in the Premier League over the years.
His injury, however, puts him right back to square one. The teenager will have to once again forge his way into the first team upon his return, but he will be gloomily aware of how rapidly a squad can change over just a few months. The spot he once occupied could, for instance, be filled by somebody else over the summer.
