Owen Hargreaves has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford following his scintillating display during Manchester United’s first leg 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-final.
The youngster, deployed at No.9, pestered Celta’s defence during the early stages, forcing a sensational save out of Sergio Alvarez and teeing up Jesse Lingard for what was a great chance to put the visitors ahead.
And Rashford, much like against Anderlecht, ended up taking matters into his own hands, launching a perfectly hit free kick into the top far corner.
And Hargreaves, speaking on BT Sport, was quick to laud the 19-year-old for what was a sensational performance against the Spanish side.
“For a 19-year-old he was impressive again. I just think he offers so much quality in and around the box.”
It is somewhat incredible to think that, over a year after that debut, Rashford continues to make global headlines, his stock rising with each rampaging performance.
Such continuity and drive is seldom found amongst teenagers – even players at their physical peak. Then again, supporters have never – not even once – had a reason to doubt the youngster. Any obstacle in his way has been overcome; dry patches in front of goal have been assuaged by the fact that, regardless of context, he gives absolutely everything to the cause.
And there are those moments, like the free kick against Celta, where all the strife and learning culminates in one episode of true, jaw-dropping greatness.
