Pep Guardiola has rejected Jose Mourinho‘s claims that he will sacrifice a Premier League top four finish for a chance of winning the Europa League.
Man United came to a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in the first-leg of the Europa League semi-final earlier in the week, and there’s a good chance the favourites could go on to lift the trophy.
Mourinho claimed he could be set to rest key players that had played too many games in April against Arsenal this weekend as he shifts, even though he’s not looking to give up on the Premier League until a top four position is mathematically impossible.
Speaking about the team, Guardiola expects a good response from Mourinho.
“It doesn’t matter about the teams he’s going to play, his decision is he is going to travel to London to win the game.”
Man United sit just outside the Premier League top four and the clash against Arsenal still represents a chance of getting back into the Champions League, which is why Mourinho will still have some importance on the clash.
The Europa League is the side’s main way back into the Champions League but Mourinho will need to be smart in how he rests and rotates his squad.
