Matteo Darmian discusses his future at Manchester United this season

Matteo Darmian has opened up about his future at Manchester United, claiming he has put talks over his future at the club on hold.

The Italian has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit in the summer transfer window, with Serie A clubs interested in his services.

However, since making his way back into the first-team in the last month Darmian admits it’s been hard to speak about his future during such a busy schedule of fixtures.

“It is normal that when you play for Manchester United there is a lot of competition for places from great players,” he said.

“It is good that it is like that because it pushes you always to do a little bit more. I work every day to be ready for when the manager picks me.

“I don’t think it is the right time to speak about my future.

“Now is the time to think about playing and nothing more. At the end of the season we will see.

“It is hard when you don’t have too many days to recover after games and once again we have another important game away against a big team after travelling to Europe.”

He’s started six of the last eight games under Jose Mourinho as United have been fighting for a Champions League qualification in the Europa League and the Premier League.

His services have come in handy throughout the side’s defensive injury crisis and hopes are he reconsiders leaving as he’s proven that he can be a vital player of the squad.
