Juan Mata has spoken out about David de Gea‘s future at Manchester United, claiming there is no reason for him to join Real Madrid this summer.

He’s had another brilliant season in between the sticks at Old Trafford and speculation surrounding his future has increased with links to a move to the Bernabeu gathering pace.

The Spaniard was ready to join Madrid in 2015, however, his deal collapsed in the closing minutes of transfer deadline day and he made the decision to sign a new contract to keep him on at Old Trafford.

Speaking about his close friend, Mata is hopeful De Gea will stay at United.

“Well, I think he is happy and I think he is obviously committed to the club. He has got a contract,” Mata said.

“He is obviously more than used to living England, he is happy in Manchester.

“For me, he is great – great person, great player. If not the best goalkeeper in the world, top three for sure.

“He gave us a lot of points during the last seasons, player of the season for the team, and obviously he is happy and I don’t see a reason for him to change. So let’s hope that he can save so many more goals for us.”

He’s been United’s Player of the Year for the past three seasons and hopes are Mourinho can convince him to stay this summer has he plays a vital role in the team.

De Gea is the world’s best goalkeeper and it’ll be hard to find someone that is able to fill his shoes in between the sticks.
