Jose Mourinho explains his Manchester United team selection against Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourinho has explained his Manchester United team selection against Tottenham Hotspur, claiming he has to rest his important players for the Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm.

The side progressed past Celta Vigo in the semi-final earlier in the week and have been resting key players in the Premier League fixtures as all focus now turns to the Europa League.

Man United’s main aim is getting back into the Champions Leauge ahead of next season and following the team’s recent results, Mourinho has been forced into putting all of his eggs in the Europa League basket.

Speaking about his team, Mourinho claims players that perform well can influence his decision to play them in the Europa League final.

“I can’t lie. I cannot say today is more important than Wednesday or Wednesday is more important than Stockholm. They all know our game is the final,” he said.

“But the way the players perform can influence me positively or negatively so they have to use that as the main motivation.

“If they are motivated we can be Manchester United because even losing like we did at Arsenal there are certain levels of performance and attitude we have to keep.”

United have had the opportunities to make it into the Premier League top four but they’ve been let down by the results this campaign, especially with all the draws.

The main focus is on getting back into the Champions League and hopes are the side can do a job in Stockholm as it’ll be the most important clash of the campaign.
