And, once again, it was something of a catastrophe from start to finish: Smalling and Jones failed to offer any assurance at the back as Spurs created numerous chances on their final game at White Hart Lane.
Supporters were quick to vent their fury towards the English duo for what was another shaky display.
Reinforces the miracle that Sir Alex Ferguson performed when he made Chris Smalling and Phil Jones appear talented defenders.

Jones & Smalling simply not good enough for mufc (ignoring injuries). May never see a Rio/ Vida pair again but these 2 a million miles off.

Jose's buys have been good this season. It's all the shite that preceded it. He can't make a serious team with Smalling Jones Fella etc

Jose is clearly dabbling with CB partnerships for Europa final, hence Eric at RB. But I'm really not sold on this Smalling/Jones combo #MUFC

The term ‘chuckle brothers’ has started emerge when it comes to describing Smalling and Jones – two players looking growingly superfluous to Jose Mourinho‘s set-up with every game that passes.
Going up against an in-form Spurs side desperate to end their season – and time at White Hart Lane – on a high was never going to be easy, but it was the manner in which the pair dwindled in the North London sun, constantly reacting as opposed to dictating anything, that was galling to see.
It has, somewhat painfully, reached the stage where you could probably count the number of supporters who want to see the pair remaining at Old Trafford next season on your right hand.
