Manchester United will have to make Antoine Griezmann their highest-paid player if they stand a chance of luring him away from Atletico Madrid, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move for Frenchman this summer as he allegedly sits at the top of his summer transfer list after scoring 82 goals in just three seasons at the Vicente Calderon.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out for the next 12 months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last month and his future still uncertain as he hasn’t signed a new deal, Griezmann is exactly the type of player the club need.
He is thought to be demanding a salary in the reign of £300,000 a week to reflect his status at Old Trafford.
This is after reports claimed Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the highest-paid player in the Premier League, with a basic salary of £367,640 per week and is due a total goal bonus of £2.86m.
Many thought the big Swede would have a hard time performing in England, but he’s silenced critics as he went on to score 28 goals before suffering a serious knee injury last month.
Mourinho will be looking at alternatives for Griezmann as there are still doubts over whether he’ll commit to a move, but there’s no doubt that Mourinho will be trying very hard to secure his services.
