Trabzonspor club president Muharrem Usta has confirmed that the Turkish side has entered talks with Manchester United over a deal for Marouane Fellaini.
The Belgian, in spite of drawing criticism during the early stage of the season, has cemented himself as a regular feature in Jose Mourinho‘s starting XI in recent times.
He was handed a contract extension soon after claiming an important goal in the League Cup semi-final against Hull City that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2018.
But Usta, speaking to Takvim, confirmed that the club was interested in securing the 29-year-old’s signature this summer.
“We are focusing our efforts on signing a midfielder and striker,” he said.
“We are looking for players who will improve the team and help fill our new stadium. The midfielders we are in talks with are Fellaini and Natcho. We are also in talks with the striker Soldado.”
Supporters will always share differing opinions over Fellaini; he receives more criticism than praise, that’s for sure. But one thing nobody can ever doubt is that the Belgian possesses an indomitable sense of drive that eclipses most players in the squad.
He has, somewhat amazingly, outlasted Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin during his time at Old Trafford. These four are, without doubt, far more dangerous than the 29-year-old on paper, but when it comes to the actual struggle, the battle for survival, there aren’t many that can rival Fellaini’s sheer doggedness.
It is hard to see why Fellaini, after earning Mourinho’s trust, would decide to cut that legacy short anytime soon.
